A former brewery in Northampton Waterside Enterprise Zone will be brought back into use creating 20 new jobs.

Phipps beer, which was brewed in Northampton from 1817 to 1972, will return with a six-figure redevelopment of the former Ratliffe and Jeffery Albion Brewery in Kingswell Street.

Phipps managing director, Alaric Neville, said: “For me the prospect of Phipps NBC’s return to Northampton brewing in a restored Victorian brewery appeals to both the head and heart.

“As a businessman I am excited by the chance for my company to benefit from and play a part in Northampton’s regeneration, putting back a piece of the area’s unique character and bringing manufacturing jobs back into the town.”

This is the latest in a string of key developments for the area, and will help breathe life back into parts of the town which have gradually become rundown and under-used, helping revitalise Northampton town centre.

Councillor David Mackintosh, Northampton Borough Council leader, added: “This makes it the ideal location for Phipps, which would be an excellent addition to the business mix within our Enterprise Zone.”
