Building work started this week on a new £6.6 million centre that will house the next generation of small and medium-sized businesses in the North Eastern Enterprise Zone.

The new 56,000 sq ft Washington Business Centre is due to open next year and is part of a range of new developments taking place in the Enterprise Zone.

Earlier in the year Vantec Europe opened its new £22.5 million warehouse which produces parts for manufacturers including Nissan and Cummins.  Gateshead College has also joined the Enterprise Zone to provide training and research and development for low carbon vehicles.

The North Eastern Enterprise Zone is a centre for low carbon and advanced manufacturing sectors.  Since it’s been created in April 2012 it has created nearly 500 new jobs and attracted £53 million in private investment to the area.
