Plumbing firm to open training centre in Northampton Waterside Enterprise Zone

Northampton’s first ever training centre dedicated to the plumbing and mechanical sector is being launched in the Enterprise Zone by local training provider, EAS Mechanical Ltd.

Based on the St James Mill Road industrial estate, the EAS training centre will offer government funded plumbing apprenticeships for individuals employed by local plumbing, and heating and ventilation companies.

This vocational training pathway will be offered at both level 2 and level 3, on either a day or block-release basis at its new premises. Designed to suit the needs of employers from in and around the Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes area, the first streams will be starting towards the end of the year.

As well as creating the future generation of plumbers, the new centre will  provide an extensive range of short courses to upskill existing operatives. This includes the Gas Safe ACS qualification, water regulations, health and safety and alternative energies.

Cllr David Mackintosh, Leader of Northampton Borough Council, said:

“This kind of facility fits in well with our aim to ensure Northampton has plenty of people that are ready to tackle the opportunities presented by our Waterside Enterprise Zone.

“We want to make sure every ability level is catered for and that companies have access to a comprehensive pool of skilled individuals who can immediately meet their needs.

“That is why we recently carried out a skills audit and are working with partners, including employers and educational establishments, to ensure appropriate training is provided.”

The centre is also equipped with the latest in plumbing training tools and resources, with two main classrooms and a number of practical work and demonstration bays. In addition to this, it has been fitted out with a bespoke gas training area where qualified plumbers will be able to gain the necessary qualifications to allow them to work at the advanced gas level.
